Organic Waste Recycle

Sep 15, 2009 Organic Waste Recycle Program at Cajica City, Colombia - REPORT -

Cajica City in Colombia started an organic waste recycle program in 2008 which consists of collecting organic waste from all households (11,000 households, 50,000 citizens) and then converting that waste into organic fertilizer for agricultural use.

Local high school students visit 5 households and teaches them how to use EMTM Bokashi to make compost. Also, elementary and junior high school students learn about EM Bokashi at school, therefore they can teach their parents the technique to make compost at home.

Today, this project is carried out in 24 cities in Colombia. Compost is collected once a week by a staff from the City Health Department. EMTM Bokashi and buckets are provided by Cajica City Office, and the collected waste compost is used for organic fertilizer and animal feed.
